PIRELLI: IN THE 2013 FINANCIAL STATEMENTS THE WHEEL IS quot;REINVENTED quot; BY TEN EMERGING TALENTS

5 februarie 2014

Ten talents with a single purpose: to reinvent the wheel. On 30 and 31 January at the Pirelli Foundation in Milan, a group of talented individuals who are emerging at an international level in their respective disciplines participated in a two-day workshop dedicated to interpreting and representing, through their talent, the simplest and at the same time one of the most revolutionary inventions in human history. An exceptional artist was called upon to coordinate the meeting: the British writer-playwright, of Pakistani origin, Hanif Kureishi. The workshop will form the basis of the communication project of Pirelli's 2013 financial statements, entitled "Spinning the Wheel", which, as is now a Pirelli tradition, aims to tell the company's story by going beyond the mere numbers and technical descriptions typical of financial reports.

With "Spinning the Wheel", this year the focus is on talent, with the aim of highlighting the creativity, intuition, commitment, tenacity and passion that give form to a successful idea, project or product. All companies are always looking for new and creative ways to "spin the wheel", to best exploit their products or services. Spinning the wheel, reinventing it every day, taking into account changing technologies and the evolution of performance is what Pirelli does, and this is behind the manufacture of tyres built with creativity, design, innovation and technology that goes far beyond the tangible object, the tyre, which only appears to be simply round and black.

So, to explore the theme of talent, Pirelli called together a group of young people from the most diverse disciplines, from architecture to physics, design and music, by way of animated film and fashion. These young people will not only be asked to "reinvent the wheel", starting from worlds that have nothing to do with tyres, but also to reflect on the theme of talent - how to recognize it, how it is cultivated and how it is expressed) - together with Hanif Kureishi, the British writer known for the books (and their film adaptations) The Buddha of Suburbia, My Beautiful Laundrette, Intimacy and, most recently, The Last Word.

Those participating in the workshop are: Heidi Paula Langvad - fashion designer (Denmark), Agata Felluga - chef (Italy), Sandra Hofmann Boss - biologist (Switzerland), Jaime Magen - architect (Spain), Jean William Silva - tenor (Brazil), Rodrigo Almeida - designer (Brazil), Sandin Puce - film director (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Lei Lei - animator/cartoonist (China), Fergus McAuliffe - scientist (Ireland) and Fabio Sciarrino - physicist (Italy).
